The kids and I got to watch a swan enjoying the river today. It was a beautiful site. Even the dog enjoyed it, and decided to say hello by barking at it. We also saw a muskrat swimming around, but no picture of that one.

Later as I washed out my coffee cup a great blue heron flew in across the river right outside the kitchen window. I took several binocular photos of it.

At one point it looked like it lost it's balance and was going to fall into the water, but it quickly recovered and came up with a huge fish.
It may be tricky to see in this photo, but that was a surprisingly big fish. It flopped around hanging from the heron's mouth.

Here's another view of the late breakfast.

Apparently the fish wasn't too big though, it was swallowed down without much of a problem.

Needless to say it's been difficult to get any work done today...
